HE BROUGHT HIS SON TO JESUS
Mark 9:14-29
Text: verse 17

INTRODUCTION: The father in our story loves his son; he cared about what happened to him. This father cared enough about his son to bring him to Jesus. The words of the father in verse 17 are wonderful words: “Master, I have brought unto thee my son...” This boy had a real need, a specific need. Father, your children have a real need, a specific need too. They need Jesus Christ as Savior. I know that you can’t save your children, but you can point them to one who can. You can bring them to Jesus just like this man brought his son to Jesus.

Dad, you need to bring your son, your daughter to Jesus. Bring them to Jesus:

  • To hear the Gospel,
  • To worship,
  • To have victorious Christian living.

Dad, bring you sons and daughters to Jesus so they will know what it is to love Christ and His church.

Dad, where will you take your children? Will you take them to the church, to Christ; or will you carry them to the ball game, the amusement park, the movie when they ought to be in church?

Dad, your children need to see that Christ and his church are important to you.

    1. WHAT WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT THIS FATHER

      1. We don’t know his name, but we do know that he brought his son to Christ.

      2. We don’t know whether he was rich or poor, but we do know he brought his son to Jesus.

      3. We do not know whether he was an influential man or not, but we do know that he brought his son to Jesus Christ.

      4. Was he an educated man? I don’t know, but I do know that he brought his son to Christ. And because of this, he was a wise man (Proverbs 11:30, “the fruit of the righteous. .”.)

    2. THIS FATHER BROUGHT HIS SON TO THE RIGHT PLACE

      1. Many dad’s today are more concerned about whether or not their children are going to be popular, to be successful, to be well educated than they are about bringing their children to Christ.

Dad, you number one concern should be the spiritual well being of your children.

        1. Dad, teach your children to make Matt 6:33 their rule for life: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
        2. Dad, be sure that Matthew 6:33 is the rule of your life, so that you can lead your children in the right path.

      2. Yes, this father brought his son to the right place. He brought him to Jesus.

      3. The right place to bring any of our family is to Jesus. John 1:40-42 tells us that Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. Dad’s, let’s bring our children, our relatives, and our friends, to Christ.

      4. Dear lost friend, let me point you to Christ today. You are somebody’s son, somebody’s daughter, and you need Christ.
        1. Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
        2. Isaiah 45:22: “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”

      5. Father, are you bringing your son to Christ or are you leading him away from Christ?
        1. Many folks today despise the church and Christ because of the lives of their parents.
        2. Lead them to Christ!

      6. The right place for you and your children today is the church: Sunday and Wednesday.

    3. HE BROUGHT HIM TO THE RIGHT PERSON

      1. There is only one way to heaven, and that is through the right person, Jesus Christ (John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

      2. In Acts 4:12, the Bible clearly states that it’s Christ or nothing. It is Christ and eternal life or no Christ and eternal damnation. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.”

    4. HE BROUGHT HIM TO THE ONE WHO CAN GIVE LIFE

      1. Christ is the one who can give eternal life (I John 5:11-12).

      2. Not only is Christ the source of eternal life, He is the way to victorious living.
        1. John 10:10: “ I am come that they might have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
        2. I Corinthians 15:57: “But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
        3. Romans 8:37: “... in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

    5. HE BROUGHT HIM TO THE ONE IN WHO HE WAS TRUSTING

      1. The man had faith in Christ; faith that comes from God (Mark 9:23-24).
        1. Faith is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9).
        2. God welcomes the prayer of faith and the prayer for more faith.

      2. We need in our country today men of faith, men with faith in God. I like what General Douglas MacArthur said: “I don’t want to be remembered as the great General who led the armies and liberated the people. Rather, I want to be remembered as the Christian father who read the Bible and had family prayers” (Hutson 25).
        1. Dad’s, our children need to see us with our Bibles; they need to see us faithful.
        2. Wouldn’t it be great if your children know you as a Bible believing, praying man of God and could say, “My father knows God.”

    6. HE BROUGHT HIM TO JESUS BECAUSE HE LOVED HIS SON

      1. You may say, “I love my son, my daughter, enough to give them a good home, good food, clean clothes, and a good education.” But do you love them enough to bring them to Jesus.

      2. Dad, love your children enough to bring them to Jesus, to bring them to church, to come to church with them.

      3. His son had great problems, and he brought him to the one who could help because he loved him.

CONCLUSION: Can you say with the unnamed man of faith: “Master, I have brought unto thee my son?”
